IPL Skin Rejuvenation

What is IPL?  Intense Pulsed Light is the new generation of machines using light frequencies to target pigmentation in hair, veins or skin.

How does it work? Ipl selectively targets Melanin (the pigment that causes a hair shaft to have colour. The darker the hair the more the light is attracted to it so only black or brown hair can be removed using IPL technology.

It's important to note that laser does not work on light hair (hair with no melanin/pigment) and very fine and vellus hair. Electrolysis is the only permanent solution for those types of hair.

What does it do? It removes hair permanently and reduces red veins and pigment as in age spots. It is also used in rejuvenation of skin, literally slowing down the aging process.

Who performs these treatments and where? Our registered Nurse Katie winstanley has been fully trained and has clinics in The Manor’s own appearance medicine wing, any day of the week in opening times.

Which machine? We only use the top of the range D pulse machine in our spa, which is designed for larger areas providing great results in super quick time.

How does it remove hair? The light when applied to the skin is absorbed by the melanin (pigment /colour) in the hair. This then heats up the hair follicle and removes blood vessels supplying the hair so it cannot grow back.

What areas can you do? It works particularly well on the face, underarms and bikini (standard/extended /or Brazilian), and can also be used for legs, arms, necks and backs.

How long do I have to wait between treatment sessions?Usually, treatments are spaced 2-6 weeks apart although the spacing depends upon individual response to treatment. Because hair grows in cycles and we can only treat the hair in the growth phase its important not to skip sessions. Once the hair has disappeared an annual maintenance treatment is sometimes required.

Facial veins: Fine blood vessels that have become apparent at the skin surface can absorb the light and be removed. Results are often seen after 3 treatments, but some clients will require more treatments.

Photo rejuvenation: A light signal is sent to the body’s collagen production system; this then enhances the rate at which the collagen is produced, rejuvenating the skin over time. Additionally irregular pigmentation spots absorb the light, and the melanin producing cells are disabled – evening out skin colour. Plus it also tightens open pores. It works well on the face, neck, décolleté and hands to rejuvenate and even the skin. We normally recommend 3-6 treatments every three weeks.

Does it hurt? The treatment has been likened to being flicked by a rubber band but is very minimal, and the skin may go slightly red for a few hours.

How Much? Hair removal treatments range start at just $60 per session for top lip. Please contact the clinic for individual prices of treatments. If you are comparing prices for IPL services, it is important to understand that a lesser quality machine may be cheaper in price, but you may well require more treatments so it may not be cheaper in the long run.

Although the initial outlay is more expensive than waxing, once you have had your course of treatments you will only need the occasional maintenance treatment not 6 weekly trips to the salon for waxing ever again! And not an ingrown hair in sight!!
