Katie Winstanley, a former nurse, was shocked to discover that hot wax used for Brazilian treatments was also being applied to the delicate brow area on skin that is up to ten times thinner. After seeing burns and damage dismissed as normal skin lifting, she set out to create a safer, gentler alternative for her clients.

While in the UK caring for her father, Katie discovered threading—a natural method that shapes brows without heat, harsh chemicals, or trauma to the skin. After completing her diploma, she returned to New Zealand determined to raise standards in an industry known for poor shaping, outdated techniques, and practices that often harmed the skin.

Katie introduced her signature 6-step system, New Definition Brows®, challenging old-fashioned methods and redefining what professional brow care should be.

Launching a premium brow service in a small town used to $10 waxes was a bold move. Katie removed traditional treatment room barriers to create New Zealand’s first open brow bar, making brow care more accessible and routine.

“It was terrifying at first—I lost most of my $10 clients overnight. But I believed in offering something better, something unique. 

That belief paid off. Clients soon travelled from across the country for New Definition Brows®, a signature system combining expert brow mapping, colour correction, threading, and advanced finishing techniques for long-lasting, beautifully balanced brows.

Driven by her passion for raising industry standards, Katie went on to open New Zealand’s first Brow School, training therapists nationwide and beyond. She was asked to train at the beauty expo and has been asked to share her passion country wide.
